The Goopy Sack was born out of a growing hatred of tote bags. I don't like how they rest on my shoulder and one strap always falls down and they were becoming a nuisance.
I wanted a cross-body catch all bag to just throw my junk into and head out the door. There's no hidden surprises, just a sack for my stuff.
Features
The pattern is constructed from two drop shaped fabric pieces connected along their edges by a long rectangluar fabric scrap.
The strap is connected to the bag via a brass swivel snaphook.
The synching mechanism uses paracord that runs through an upper seam in the bag and secures closed via a black plastic cordstop.
The strap is made from 3/4" woven synthetic strap material. I over-estimated the material needed and used about 5' of strap for this bag.
I like this bag because it's a grab bag of my stuff. It usually has enough room to fit all of the things I need for the day and it doesn't over-promise or under deliver on what I need.
I needed a cross-body bag to store my things while I'm out and about and the Goopy Sack does exactly that.
The bag was designed to fit a 15" laptop and any other trinkets or things one may need throughout the day.
In these context photos, I packed:
15" Laptop
Book
Sketchbooks and pen
Extra Pair of Socks (you never know)
Hat
Over-Ear Headphones
Water Bottle
Keys
Airpods
AND I still had room in the Goopy Sack for more items.
This project was helpful to get me back onto the sewing machine. From estimating the length of the strap in a Hobby Lobby to predicting the bag size and shrinkage from seam allowances, this bag challenged the designer in me.
Moving forward, I would like future bags to feature different closure methods, hidden seams, more creative patterns, and differing color combinations.
