Leveraging what I had learned during the creation of my Goopy Sack, I took on a bigger challenge. I created this bag out of frustration with carrying my summer biking tools in backpacks and hip bags.
I wanted a frame bag that was easy to put on and take off of my bike. I used scraps of fabric from previous projects and zippers from my collection.
Overall, the style of bag is extremely simple. I created it by tracing the interior of my bike frame on a sheet of cardboard and cutting two large duck cotton pieces from this stencil.
These two pieces of fabric were joined along their perimeters using a 2" strip of navy fabric. Five different Velcro frame attachment points were sewn in along the seams.
This project was the perfect follow up to the Goopy Sack. It challenged me to think about pattern design- something I find I enjoy doing but don't do it often enough.
The bag itself also isn't perfect. I didn't want to purchase a grommet puncher so the Velcro feels like a poor man's solution. It's not a bad solution but the bag feels less luxe and more utilitarian. I also didn't hide my internal seams and the fraying cotton is starting to piss me off.
My next bag I really want to push myself and hide the internal seams. I think I could make this work via meticulous folding, or by creating an internal liner that keeps the stuff where it's supposed to be.
